For boosted cars, the Water/Meth kit helps two ways. First the atomized water drastically lowers intake temps, allowing a cooler charge into the cylinder. Secondly, the Water/Methanol/Alcohol mixture acts as an octane booster, reducing the risk of detonation and allowing higher levels of boost to be run safely. In diesel applications, if you are running a chip, the fact is you likely have higher EGTs. While those mean more power, they can also cause premature wear on your turbo. AEMs datalogging shows EGTs drop drastically when running a water/methanol kit.
